Charles Raymond Wright passed away at the age of 86 on February 19th, 2024 in Tyler, Texas.

Charles was born in San Antonio, Texas on February 22, 1937. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Mt. Pleasant.

He attended Mt. Pleasant schools graduating in 1955. He graduated from Texas Christian University with a Bachelor of Education degree. After college he served as a Captain in the United States Army Artillery where he trained in Fort Sill, Oklahoma and was stationed in France. He received his Master of Education from East Texas State University in Commerce.

Charles taught three years in the Pittsburg Independent School District and served 38 years in the Mount Pleasant Independent School District where he taught science, biology, and math courses, served as a high school counselor, teacher evaluator, Assistant Superintendent and retired as Superintendent of Schools. He also coached football, basketball, and track in junior high and high school. In 1971 his track team won a UIL State Championship which was the first state championship for Mount Pleasant High School in any sport.

Charles is survived by his loving wife of 56 years Peggy (Hoffman) Wright, his daughter and son-in-law, Kim and Jay Dill, son and daughter-in-law Eric and Suzie Wright, six grandchildren, Caroline Browning, Grant Browning, Maddie Dill, Charles Wright, Kathleen Wright and Nelson Wright. He is also survived by his sister and brother-in-law Jerri and Jack Fleming and his nephew Billy Fleming. He is preceded in death by his parents and his special grandmother.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to a charity of one’s choice.

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Bates-Cooper-Sloan Funeral Home.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 24, at 2 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Mount Pleasant.
