Patrick Sloan Ross, Sr.

Patrick Sloan Ross, Sr., age 67, of Mount Vernon, Texas, passed away on Friday, December 1, 2023, in Plano, Texas.

Visitation will be Friday, December 8, from 6-8 p.m. at Sam B. Harvey Funeral Home. The Funeral Service will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday, December 9, 2023, at the Sam B. Harvey Funeral Home Chapel with Mark Markle officiating. Pallbearers will be John Ross, Justin Ross, Michael Ross, Randy Ross, Chris Ross, Ryan Ross, Juan Ramos, Forlan Ramos, and honorary pallbearers, Bill Blount and Sid Ross. Interment will be at the Mount Vernon City Cemetery.

Pat was born on March 12, 1956, in Ft. Sill, Oklahoma to John Gaston and Rnell (Strickland) Ross. He enlisted in the military as a junior in high school in North Dakota. He served in the United States Army for more than 20 years. He retired after heading the motorpool maintenance department at Fort Hood in Killeen, Texas.

His second career was with Pilgrim’s Pride Corp., where Pat worked for over 10 years; all but two as supervisor for the maintenance department at the Mount Pleasant plant. Over the past 10-12 years Pat worked side by side with family members in their businesses Ross Construction and M&R Construction.

Not known for being idle, Pat was renown among family and friends for his green thumb. During growing season, there were always a variety of greens, squash, cucumbers, tomatoes, peppers, and peas and beans of many kinds. Many were beneficiaries of his gardening. He took great pleasure in tending his garden; not a pastime handed down to offspring at least to the degree to which Pat did.

Pat loved everyone, especially his family and extended family. He would help with whatever was needed. He did pass on that kind and giving spirit to his children. That made it possible for Pat, even in death, to continue to help others in the literal giving of himself to those who are in need of “the gift of life.”

As in the apostle Paul’s words in 1 Corinthians 13:13 “and now abide in faith, hope, love, these three, but the greatest of these is LOVE.”

Pat was preceded in death by his parents, John and Rnell Ross; son, Patrick Sloan, Jr. (PJ); grandchild, Trenton Ross; and brothers, Michael and George Ross.

Those that will forever cherish his memory are his children and their spouses, John and Raegan Ross, Justin and Angelica Ross, and Michael and Lidia Ross; daughter, Jessie Ross and Jordan Ridderhof; Grandchildren, Dailey Ross, Savannah Ross, Mia Ross, Angel Ross, Asli Garcia, Anthony Garcia, Justin Ross, Steven Ross, Juan Ramos, Forlan Ramos, Ryan Ross, Addisen Ross, and Jayden Ross; Siblings and their spouses, sister, Deborah and Bill Blount; brothers, Randy and Melanie Ross, and Sid and Kim Ross; and sister-in-law Karma Ross.
