HB teams pick up wins before, after Christmas

In their respective final games before Christmas, the Harts Bluff Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs were searching for a win in their home matchup against Como-Pickton. The Lady Bulldogs found themselves in a battle with the Lady Eagles and gave fans an early present of free basketball in a double-overtime thriller in the matchup, but a 9-2 run in the second overtime helped push Como-Pickton to a tight double overtime win over Harts Bluff, 47-40.

And now, a round up of local basketball action from last week: In their lone game last week, the 17th-ranked (TABC) Mount Pleasant Tigers won on the road at Royse City, pulling away in the fourth quarter for a 52-44 win. The Lady Tigers fell in their first two district games, dropping a 65-59 game against Marshall and a 73-36 decision to Tyler High.

Antez Jeffery and his family all wore matching shirts for his signing event Thursday afternoon. The shirts featured a picture of Jeffery and the quote, “Once you leave the ground, you fly. Some people fly longer than others.”

“No Cull” Crappie

Crappie fishermen headed to Lake Fork and Lake O’ the Pines in eastern Texas between now and February 28 are reminded of a special “no cull” regulation that is now in effect on those two impoundments. From December 1 to February 28, anglers are required to keep every crappie they catch, up to a legal limit of 25 fish, regardless of size.

The founder of a popular charity bass tournament benefitting children’s hospitals recently announced a rule change for the upcoming 2024 event that has grabbed the attention of the fishing community and stirred some debate among anglers who enjoy casting for cash. At heart of the debate is forward-facing sonar (FFS), and Randy Despino’s decision to prohibit the use of the technology in the Despino’s Tire Service “Fishing for Kids” team bass tournament set for March 9 on Toledo Bend Reservoir.
